Village History

When was Liverpool settled?  The Salt Boilers settled in Liverpool in 1794. The Village was incorporated in 1830.
How did Liverpool get its name?
Nobody knows for sure. We probably  named it after Liverpool, England where salt was also manufactured and shipped.
What unusual industry supported many Liverpool people?  Willow Weaving!! Around 1900, Liverpool weavers produced 360,000 laundry baskets alone--three-quarters of all the laundry baskets sold in the United States. Liverpool willow weavers also made other kinds of baskets in their yards. Many of these barns are still standing. You can visit the Liverpool Willow Museum during the summer on Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4 p.m. on the grounds of the Gleason Mansion, 314 Second St.
