LIVERPOOL NEWS
SALES TAX REVENUE CRISIS
The Onondaga County sales tax distribution resolution
(allowing for the distribution of a portion of county sales tax to
the village) will expire on December 31, 2010. There is a
possibility that no revenues will be set aside for distribution to
each affected municipal entity after that date. Our sales tax
revenue in the past has been approximately $570,000, currently 26.5%
of our annual revenue source. If the County Legislature chooses to
eliminate sales tax revenue sharing with the Village of Liverpool
starting fiscal year June 2011-2012, the Village of Liverpool would
have to raise the Village Tax Rate by up to 50% in order to maintain
current service levels.
Public support is strongly encouraged. A
public hearing is scheduled for March 15, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in the
Legislature Chambers, 401 Montgomery Street, Court House, Room 407,
Syracuse, NY 13202. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please
send a letter of support to the Chairman of the Sales Tax Committee
(James Rhinehart) and our County Legislator, (Judy Tassone) to the
Legislature Chamber at the above address. As more information is
available from the County Sales Tax Committee, the Village of
Liverpool will schedule a public hearing for community input.
